Mr. Owens submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the
Committee on Education and Workforce

RESOLUTION
Expressing support for recognizing the month of May as ``Excellence in
Education: Merit Day Celebration''.
Whereas the ``Excellence in Education: Merit Day Celebration'' will recognize
individuals, students, educators, administrators, schools, and community
partners who--
(1) advance a merit-based system in classrooms to help ensure students
receive the best education, regardless of background or income;
(2) ensure that every student in America receives access to a quality
education that matches their true potential and challenges them to be
better; and
(3) recognize individual
(s) or groups demonstrating merit-based systems
or practices of meritocracy in their public, charter, or private sectors
from K-12 and higher education; and
Whereas it is essential to celebrate and promote a merit-based approach in
education that drives excellence and helps foster the success of
students from all backgrounds: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) expresses its full support for recognizing ``Excellence
in Education: Merit Day Celebration'', to honor those who
contribute to the advancement of merit-based educational
systems and their role in ensuring the success of future
generations of students across the Nation; and
(2) respectfully requests that the Clerk of the House
transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to relevant
educational organizations, administrators, and policymakers to
encourage widespread recognition and participation in the
Excellence in Education: Merit Day Celebration.
