A BILL
To amend the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to extend the emergency
period during which the President may exercise control over the
Metropolitan Police Department.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1.
(a) In General.--
Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule
Act (
Act (
sec. 1-207.
(1) by striking ``thirty days'' and inserting ``180 days''
each place it appears; and
(2) in subsection
(c) , by striking ``thirty-day'' and
inserting ``180-day''.
(b) Applicability to Previously Declared Emergency.--This Act, and
the amendments made by this Act, shall apply with respect to an
emergency declared by the President under
section 740 of the District
of Columbia Home Rule Act (
of Columbia Home Rule Act (
sec. 1-207.
the date of the enactment of this Act.
