following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

A BILL

To remove the six-year statute of limitations on certain claims against
the United States Government by survivors of members of the Armed
Forces who died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1.

This Act may be cited as the ``Supporting Our Surviving Spouses
Act''.
SEC. 2.
UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT.

(a) In General.--
Section 3702 (b) (1) of title 31, United States Code, is amended-- (1) in subparagraph (A) , by striking ``or'' at the end; (2) in subparagraph (B) , by striking the period at the end and inserting ``; or''; and (3) by adding at the end the following: `` (C) a claim for survivor benefits under subsection (a) (1) (A) by a survivor of a member of the armed forces who died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, in which case no time limitation for the receipt of such claim shall apply.

(b)

(1) of title 31, United States
Code, is amended--

(1) in subparagraph
(A) , by striking ``or'' at the end;

(2) in subparagraph
(B) , by striking the period at the end
and inserting ``; or''; and

(3) by adding at the end the following:
``
(C) a claim for survivor benefits under subsection

(a)

(1)
(A) by a survivor of a member of the armed forces who
died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, in
which case no time limitation for the receipt of such claim
shall apply.''.

(b) Applicability Date.--The amendments made by subsection

(a) shall apply with respect to a claim filed on or after the date of the
enactment of this Act.
